A few years back in 2008 the financial crisis hit the United States head on and the world again was shown that the USA was not immune to downturns. Since this date it has set in action a high number of wealthy investors turning to emerging markets to hedge against investing everything internally. North American investors are concerned that their portfolios of soft and hard assets are going to suffer over the long term given the size of the United States’ budget deficit, the weakness of the dollar and the uncertainty over the stock market long term.

Investing nationally and internationally has always held risks but many investors see a different trade-off in regards to international markets as stagnant local or declining markets can be offset by investing in some international markets that are growing fast, are popular and in some cases booming.

In theory the more turbulent the market the higher the potential return over the short term. The issues are that investors should accept that some investments will bear better than others and investing into several markets or countries as against one will cushion the overall up and down markets trends.
